How to write a house rent receipt in Bangladesh

A rent receipt is the tenant's proof of payment and the landlord's record of income. Section 13 of the Premises Rent Control Act 1991 requires the landlord to give a signed receipt immediately for every payment and to keep the counterfoil.

What to put on it

1. A running receipt number, never reused
2. The date the money was received
3. Landlord or building name and address
4. Tenant name and the flat or shop
5. Which month it pays for, with rent, service charge and bills listed separately
6. Total in figures and in words (for example, ৳17,500, Seventeen Thousand Five Hundred Taka Only, সতেরো হাজার পাঁচশত টাকা মাত্র)
7. How it was paid, and the bKash, Nagad or bank transaction ID
8. Signatures

Keep the counterfoil

The counterfoil (মুড়ি) is the landlord's copy. Keep them in number order; a gap in the numbers is the first thing anyone checks in a dispute.
